One size does NOT fit all, and an outfit or style that’s amazing on one lady might not be the best choice for you. It’s crucial to keep your shape in mind when choosing your outfits for your boudoir session because we want to complement your body. Every body is different — but, fortunately, boudoir is for every body. The beautiful thing about boudoir is that it’s totally customizable and there are perfect outfits for every shape and every comfort level.
Boudoir is an investment, and a beautiful, beautiful gift for yourself to keep and relish in for years to come. That’s why I am always keen to put careful thought and consideration into every single detail with you, especially your outfits. You’ll want something that flatters your body’s shape and, perhaps more importantly, an outfit that’s true to you!
So, if you’re gifted with beautiful curves, don’t fret about what to wear. I’ve put together some tips for the types of outfits that can accentuate and complement your body, whether you want to leave more to the imagination of are looking to be totally adventurous for your boudoir shoot.
1. A Fitted T-shirt with Boy Shorts… If you think that this duo is reserved for the tomboys, you’re so wrong! Boudoir isn’t just about lingerie. A fitted t-shirt with boy shorts combo offers moderate coverage yet is still form-fitting enough to hug your body and give off a playful sexiness. It’s so versatile and exudes an effortless, natural vibe in your portraits. Also, did I mention how comfortable you’ll be wearing this?
2. Bodysuits/Teddies… Bodysuits and teddies are other great options for curvy ladies. They exude sensuality while tightly hugging your curves — but they also offer more coverage for areas that you might be more self-conscious about or if you simply prefer to show less skin. If you want to show more skin, super sexy deep V’s or cutouts can accentuate your bust. Plus, they come in so many variations, from halters, to straps, to sleeves, so you’ll be sure to find one that you feel totally comfortable in.
4. A Robe… There’s just something so feminine and romantic about a robe. The way it flows and drapes creates truly stunning portraits. Depending upon your comfort level, you can go sheer or opaque satin and you can reveal as much or as little as you want by opening or closing it. It’s also a great way to cover any areas that you aren’t comfortable with revealing, while still exuding sexiness. Plus, robes can be a perfect reflection of your personality — you can opt for classic black or don something more vibrant or floral if that better suits you.
5. Shapewear… You want to look good for the camera… literally, everyone does. And if you’re feeling a little insecure, shapewear will have your back! With proper fitting shapewear you can flatten your stomach, define your waist, or slim your arms and thighs. Even some good old fashioned, classic Spanx can benefit any woman during their shoot — and they work under your outfit if you want some further shape or to smooth your curves. It’s not a necessity at all (I don’t think anyone needs anything!), but something that helps make you feel more comfortable will definitely benefit your session! If you do choose to wear shapewear, my one suggestion is to make sure that it’s super flexible, that way you’re not uncomfortable or inhibited during your session.
Bonus: Nothing at All!.. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can wear nothing at all to fully show your body. What better way for you to show off your curves? Going fully nude with a pair of heels is a very sensuous option and certainly brings the heat to your photoshoot! Or, you can drape a sheet to imply nudity if you don’t want to bare it all. The beauty of your session is that every choice is totally up to you!
No matter which outfits you choose, there are a ton of options available for all women and all comfort levels. It’s so important to choose outfits that are true to you and that you’re 100% comfortable in — because feeling true to yourself and comfortable will certainly show in your face, body, and, thus, your photos. My ultimate advice for anyone is that your wardrobe should: make you feel your best, complement your body, and reflect exactly who you are. That’s the triple threat for an awesome session!
